Perkasie Borough Office of
Emergency Management (OEM)
The goal of the Perkasie
Borough Emergency Management Agency is dedicated to prepare for and respond to,
if necessary, the many types of emergencies that could affect the
citizens, businesses and government located within the borough, as well
as any adjacent municipalities that request assistance. This involves
careful consideration of potential hazards and their effects, minimizing
any adverse effects by planning, mitigation and public education,
understanding and preparing for response and recovering from an
emergency event (Emergency Management Primary Goals: Mitigation,
Preparedness, Response and Recovery).
The Office of Emergency
Management was established October 15, 2007 by action of the Perkasie
Borough Council under Ordinance #922 - Chapter 10: Emergency and
Disaster Management.

Perkasie Borough Code
Chapter 137 requires numbering of residences within the borough. Go the
extra step to ensure your safety; make sure your numbers are easily seen
from the road from both directions in a moving vehicle! Reflective
numbers are excellent and help at night when many emergencies occur.

Motorcycle Season is now in session!
Q:
Who is responsible for motorcycle safety?
A. The motorcyclist.
B. The
motorist (automobile).
C. The
pedestrian.
D. All of the
above.
A:
All of the above
Over the past 5 years motorcycle use
has seen a dramatic increase. With this increase motorcycle
accidents are also on the rise. Research has shown the majority
of crashes have occurred in an intersection and were caused by a
motorist that was either distracted by talking on a cell phone,
making a left turn into their lane of travel (to beat a light or
their entry into the intersection) or just someone who did not
"see" the motorcyclist.
Normally motorists are not expecting
to see a motorcycle, only cars and trucks. The motorcycles
smaller profile makes it easy to hide in the environment. It is
ever important to make sure you look two or three times before
proceeding into an intersection. Look carefully for
motorcyclists. They may move faster than it appears.
Also, do not follow or tailgate a
motorcyclist. If they have to suddenly stop you will hit and
possibly injure or kill the motorcyclist depending on the
situation. Give them a minimum 4 second space cushion
(approximately 4 car lengths). Cars have protective metal,
motorcycles do not. So give them the space they need and do not
tailgate. Most motorcyclists operate motorcycles responsibly,
those who do not, should and their lack of responsibility will
catch up to them one way or another, do not let that one way be
due to your involvement for not having control of your vehicle.

Students, parents,
teachers and staff members should anonymously report situations that may
put students in jeopardy at school by calling the Bucks County School
Watch Hotline 24-hours, toll-free at 1-877-888-7140.
The hotline is intended
to help keep schools safe by notifying local school and law enforcement
officials of potential acts of violence, theft, weapons on campus, drug
and/or alcohol abuse before they occur. Trained telecommunicators answer
the call, gather information and relay that information to the local
police department and respective school district officials. If you know
of or have heard of a threat to school safety, call the hotline!
* please note:
this is a reporting line only. It is not a public information line where
you will be able to obtain information on a school emergency situation. |
It happened at
Columbine High School and Virginia Tech; many dead and
wounded...
It DID NOT
happen at Plymouth-Whitemarsh High and Winslow Township High
(NJ) because someone made the call!
